Tax information and office procedures relating to COVID-19
* The Treasury Department has delayed the April 15 filing deadline 90 days to July 15. If you have already filed and owe money, your payment is not due until July 15, 2020. The IRS will not charge penalties or interest for payments made by this date.
* The deadline to make IRA and Health Savings Account contributions for 2019 has also been extended to July 15.
* The IRS encourages taxpayers receiving refunds to file their taxes before this deadline. We do not expect any delay in processing refunds.
* Idaho has extended the date to pay 2019 taxes until June 15, 2020.
All of us at Stewart & Associates are committed to completing your work in a timely manner. Because of the extended time to file, we plan to continue working, but will pace ourselves. (We will not be working until midnight as often). We will prioritize returns with refunds so you can get your money quickly.
In addition, recent legislation related to the Coronavirus will have impacts on individual taxpayers and small businesses. We will provide additonal information as it becomes available.
Temporary office procedures
We are making temporary changes in our office to protect you and our staff during the Coronavirus crisis. We have set up a drop box in our entryway where you can leave your documents. We empty this box frequently and do not leave it unattended. You can also send us documents through email or through our (link here) SmartVault portal. If you have questions we are still happy to meet with you and talk in person, over the phone, or by video call.
When your returns are completed, you can still pick up your returns at the office, although we may give you the returns in the lobby or outside. We can also provide digital copies of your returns and accept electronic signatures to authorize us to file if you prefer not to come in.
Please contact us if you have any questions. We appreciate working with you and your cooperation during this difficult time.
